Young Entrepreneurs
Target group: Sixth form students

The Young Entrepreneurs programme focuses on tailor-made challenges, developed in conjunction with sponsoring companies or professional organizations which align student project work with company objectives or community needs, and support the teaching of the A-level curriculum.
The annual Young Entrepreneurs programme consists of up to seven challenges each of which is devised with and supported by a Surrey company or Institution.  Up to six schools can take part in each challenge.  School teams, usually of 3-6 students, are briefed on company premises, and their progress is monitored by company staff.  Challenges widen student awareness of the supporting company, and of the processes and problems involved in developing a new product or system.  Specific one-day enterprise challenges are organised for up to 10 schools participating in teams of ten students.
Challenges taking place during 2005-6 are:
  • The Eli Lilly Challenge:  Design , develop and build a solution to simulate drug digestion wihtin a working stomach.
  • The BOC Challenge:  To find new uses for Helium and Carbon Dioxide.
  • The Scottish Courage Charitable Trust Challenge: To tackle safety and crime prevention issues.
  • The Mouchel Bridge Challenge - To design and test either in model form or full size, a bridge that can be taken in sections to a disaster area.
  • Surrey County Council Sustainability Challenge:  To design a model, product or project that has the potential for using 75% or more recycled material.
  • Brooklands Museum Challenge: To develop an interactive exhibit for the Science and Discovery room at the museum.
