Block Work Experience
Target Group:  Secondary age pupils (Years 10 & 11)

The Trident Trust Surrey works with over 80 schools, including special schools, organising over 9,500 work placements every year.

Block work experience is arranged for either one or two weeks.  Application forms are completed by the students which show their preferences and suitable placements are found.

The relevant Health & Safety visits are carried out in line with LSC guidelines before the student starts; high risk companies being visited every year, medium risk every two years and low risk every four years.
All guidelines relating to students in the workplace are strictly adhered to.

Students, schools and employers are able to select a suitable project from a Portfolio of Projects to be undertaken during the placement.  As well as acting as a valuable tool for the employer, it may also allow the student to gain accreditation for their work, including the nationally recognised Crest Silver Award for Science, Engineering and IT.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:  Following the huge success of the pilot work experience programme held at Surrey Police Headquarters in June 2004, another is scheduled to be held on 11th, 12th & 13th April 2005.  For full details - see NEWS.

Case Studies
Chris interviewed very poorly.  He was unable to identify with what he wanted or expected from his placement in a restaurant.  This proved to be down to extreme shyness.

After 2 days at work he had settled in so well that he outshone some of the more experienced staff.
